A little bit about me:

I come from a big, sweet tooth family.  My mom would make us various Mexican treats like arroz on leche, capirotada, buñuelos and gelatinas.  My dad would always come from the grocery store with a different kind of sweet.  Plus, we had Mexican sweet breads on hand.  Added bonus – my dad is a chef and would make us delicious things like tiramisu, which I now proudly replicate.

Growing up, my older sister and I would occasionally make box mix brownies and cakes – our just because we want something sweet.  She did the main mixing and baking, but I still loved the process.  After I moved out, I had the basics for baking – a hand mixer, couple of mixing bowls and a set of baking pans from a local grocery store.  When my younger sister and brother would visit, my sister and I would bake and try something new.

Fast forward several years, I had always wanted a stand mixer.  When my then fiancé now husband and I bought our first house in 2015, I finally bought a KitchenAid Stand Mixer.  I was so stoked and could not wait to start using it.  I used every excuse in the book to make a cake.

My love for baking grew.  I started experimenting with recipes and creating my own.  My baking collection started to grow along with cake decorating tools.  Soon, I took over our kitchen and spare bedroom.  What started with making cakes for family and friends, turned into launching Sweets by Cheeks in 2017.  Being able to share and do what I love with others brings me joy, especially when I get to see someone's "mmm" face after taking their first bite.

On a side note, I discovered in early 2022 that my paternal great-grandfather was a baker and owned/operated a bakery in Mexico.  How cool is that!
